GOING DEEPER SUMMER PRAYER DIARY
Mondays
Pray for our country and our world. Listen out in the news for situations where it's clear God is needed in our broken society, and pray that we will return to God through Jesus for forgiveness, healing and transformation. Each week pray for a couple of our mission partners: one at home, and one overseas. There is a list at http://www.aldridgeparishchurch.org/GLO/glonew.htm
Tuesdays
Give thanks and pray for our children and young people. Pray for home and family life - that God will make our families and marriages strong and good places to be. Each week pray for a different activity: Noah's Ark and Little Fishes for the pre-school ages; The Zone Sunday church groups; Coolbox (years 5&6) and Freezer (Years 7&8); Youth Fellowship. Check the web site for more details on each: http://www.aldridgeparishchurch.org/groups.htm
Wednesdays
Pray for our parish: Aldridge. Our job is to make all the difference to Aldridge by leading people to the joy of knowing Jesus and Kingdom of God. If you can, walk and pray round different areas; use the different locations (shops, supermarkets, pubs and clubs) as a way of praying for the people of Aldridge, those you know and those you don't. Ask God to show you how to pray for people and places, and to reveal to us how we can go deeper with our community as we live in it for Jesus' sake.
Thursdays
Pray for our church: Aldridge Parish Church. Pray about the new church rooms building project and everyone involved that planning permission will be granted and the work go ahead in the right way but remember that the church is the people rather than the building, and each week give thanks for, and pray into, the different ways we enjoy growth and fellowship. Ask God to bring more people to the next Alpha course in the autumn, and pray for all those who've recently come through Alpha as they set about becoming disciples in Beta groups. Pray for all our small groups, and our men's and women's meetings. Pray for the prayer ministry team and the teams which visit people in their homes or lead services in Aldridge's various care homes. Pray for the Pop-in and all our older members too.
Fridays
Pray for healing and wholeness in Jesus: lift to God those you know are unwell, in body mind or spirit, and ask God to break in with strength and healing. Pray that all of us will go deeper with God: expecting more from him, receiving more from him, and obeying him in everything. Give thanks that so many people come to us for help with baptisms, wedding and funerals: week by week, pray for one of these activities and ask God to bless all who we've met in church through this work, and ask that all the seeds planted in hearts and minds will come to bear the fruit of lives faithfully committed to, and transformed by, Jesus.
Saturdays
Pray for leadership in the church. Each week you can give thanks and pray for a few members of both the full-time staff team http://www.aldridgeparishchurch.org/team.htm and the Parish Church Committee http://www.aldridgeparishchurch.org/pcmmembers2010_11.htm . Give thanks for the work of Michelle Hart at the Hothouse and Sue Fung at Cooper and Jordan School, and ask God to bless them as they move on. Pray too for Phil Wilks, the new Youth Worker and his family as they move to Aldridge and for Rachel Butterfield and her family as she takes over as the new Schools Worker. Pray too for all those who lead the different groups and activities we run, especially our small groups, and ask God to reveal everyone's talents and graces and to build up more gifted and visionary leaders who will step forward in their love for Jesus. Ask that we can have humble servant leaders keen to start leading groups and activities, and even planting new churches at home and abroad.
Sundays
Deliberately set aside some "Sabbath time" - time for you to spend with God. Make space to listen to him and connect with him again, one on one. Allow him to speak to you - from the Bible, with words he speaks, or with pictures he sends. Come expecting to hear from him: he will reassure you with the truth about his love, and challenge you to repentance and to going deeper in your discipleship. Keep a small notebook or computer file to record what you think God is saying and doing week by week, and see how he speaks to you and answers prayers over the summer.
Also, through the week please pray for those who are unwell, including Pat Blount, Denis Murphy, Vera Stickland and Linda Titley. Pray too for those who have been bereaved recently, remembering especially the family and friends of Margaret Perks, Elsie Taylor, Victoria Lewis, Raymond Hadley, Edwin Wheeler, Alfred Hollender, Robert McCarthy and Dorothy Roberts.
