Welcome to Little Fishes Playgroup information pages. Our aim at playgroup is to provide a setting where children can play and learn in a safe, caring and fun environment.  We aim to nurture the children’s development in all areas; language, cognitive, self help, social and motor skills. We are a Christian playgroup, affiliated to Aldridge Parish Church. However, we welcome all families whatever their beliefs and cultural background. Below are some details about the group, which you may want to know.

Activities

We have topics around which we plan our activities, & we let parents/carers know what these topics are so that they can talk to their child about them at home or bring in things to show everyone. We welcome visitors from the local community to tie in with our topics (e.g. nurse, teacher, fireman etc.) so if any parent has a job or talent which they could share with the children, we like to know!
A typical session will be; Children welcomed into playgroup : Registration : News
Discuss day’s activities : Free play and craft activities
Tidy up time and toilet stop : Snack time : Singing : Stories
Tabletop activities : Home time
Weather permitting, we try to play
outside regularly, on bikes etc.

Parent Help
At each session we ask parents or family members to help; this is arranged on a rota basis. We welcome mums, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles etc to stop and help, though qualified supervisors will always be present too. At each session we are required to have a specific adult: child ratio and if we fall below this the session will not be able to run. It is therefore very important that parents let us know as soon as possible if they are unable to take their turn. We understand that the rota may cause problems for some parents and we will try to be as flexible as possible. If anyone is unable to be part of the parent rota because of work commitments etc we do have to charge an extra £3 per month to cover the cost of paying a helper to cover.

Child Record Form & Permission Slip
Parents are asked to complete a record form for their child. This gives us important information, such as emergency contact numbers and details of allergies etc. It is very important that this information is kept up to date so we need to be informed of any changes throughout the year. Please note that children will only be released to the named persons on the record form. Staff must be told of any changes to that arrangement.

Security

We have a lock and a bell on the entrance door. The door is locked throughout the session, so should anyone wish to enter during the session, they have to ring the bell. We also have security gates in the outside play area. A register is taken at each session so that we know which children are present.

Clothes

Children need a spare set of clothes at each  session. These should be in a clearly named bag. A child’s coat and hat should be clearly labelled too. Children need to be able to go to the toilet as independently (and usually as quickly!) as possible, so clothes which are difficult to undo are not a good idea! We do provide aprons for messy activities but a child may still get paint etc on his/her clothes.

We do go outside to play, even in winter, so children will need appropriate clothes for this – a coat etc in winter and sun hat (and cream) in summer etc.

Notice Board
There is a notice board in the church rooms with information about our policy documents, insurance details etc. A second board is displayed, giving details of planning, parent help etc. Please read these notices.
More detailed information is available in our policy and procedure documents.

Settling In
All children react differently to starting playgroup. Parents know their child best and we will work with them to settle their child. They are welcome to stop with their child for a few sessions or leave them for short periods of time. We have a separate room in which they may stay, to wait and see if their child settles. We will always contact a parent if a child does not settle or becomes upset at any time.

Fees
Each month we provide an envelope detailing the amount owed. We ask that envelopes are returned with the fee enclosed. If possible, we prefer payment by cheque, made payable to Little Fishes Playgroup. We are able to apply to Social Services for assisted places (i.e. Social Services will pay your fees if you are unable to do so. The fees payable are as follows:
