Recently, some friends have asked: Where in the world are you, June? Oh dear!
Well, hanging on by my toenails...
Do forgive me for being out of touch and thank you for caring about me.
You know I like to write often, and value you very much. So, while there are some reasons
for the silence, in my mind there are no excuses. I am truly sorry.
I’m home in Dallas now, after spending most of the last six months in Papua New Guinea.
They were good months with varied challenges. You’ve been praying and God’s been answering.

What a difference to my world to have the help of David Ringer! His youthful enthusiasm is a match for my forever enthusiasm. But, David has the advantage
of a 23 year-old. He has a lot more energy and has put feet on my dreams as well as his own. And, he is very smart. We worked closely together while I was in
PNG and through the Internet during my time in the States. Right now he is traveling to the remotest parts of Papua New Guinea, taking photos and gathering the true-life stories that abound. He is doing really well, and I am very proud of him. He is a joy to mentor. Please pray him through the last stretch of travel. When David returns in November, we will produce materials from all he has gathered. We are trusting God will use it to raise partners for
the Bible translation work in that part of the world.

While in PNG we celebrated the 50th anniversary of our translation and literacy work. I’ll never forget that joyful day. David and I were on duty recording it, of course, and busy, but I was moved often to tears. I was reminded constantly of what God has done. At one point local people, in colorful dress, streamed onto the stage. Each one carried a New Testament in a different language. There were 159 of them. Then others continued to come, representing programs
in progress. We were deeply moved. The Governor General of PNG, Sir Paulias Matane, who celebrated with us on that day, challenged everyone to be part
of the future—to serve the many peoples who still do not have the Word in their own languages.

Hoping for a worldwide impact, David and I produced materials in six languages reporting the special celebrations. Later in the summer, we were both able to
be part of meetings in the capital city with the local Bible Translation Organization of PNG, and the leaders of the Communications Center for Asia and the Pacific. Most of our efforts since then have been focused on a 12-page color brochure we’ve been putting together to share the 50 years of work in PNG.
Today it goes from the graphic artist in Australia to the printer in the States. David has been completing the copy in PNG and I’ve been working from here. Challenges galore!

It’s a different world at home right now. I brought a piece of Papua New Guinea home with me. Brian and Val Hodgkin and their two teenage daughters, with whom I usually stay in PNG, suddenly needed to be in Dallas for six months or more. They needed somewhere to live so I invited them to stay with me for as long
as they need. While this plan has called for adjustments for all of us, we are benefiting from each other’s company.
Pray for us that we will be of mutual help during these months.

Once home in the States I realized I was very weary, much more than usual. I kept up with work essentials, but wasn’t able to do much else. That was
not normal for me—I tend to go for life with a capital L, at 120%. My doctor sent me to see both cardiac and pulmonary specialists. Each decided that I was only functioning physically at 75% of norm. Diagnosis isn’t complete. I have to go back, but the lung man doubled my asthma medicine and the heart man is trying something new. I’m adjusting to new medicine—a beta-blocker—in an attempt to help the heart work better and to try to keep my blood pressure way down. I have to return to both doctors in a few weeks, and more tests may be an option. Please pray that God will heal me and help me live a balanced and slightly quieter life! Eeek! One other thing I’d like to ask you to pray about, please. For years I haven’t slept well. In recent years I’ve used a prescription
sleep medicine. This medicine may have contributed to the heart symptoms, so I am managing without it. Just this morning I woke up with a sense God
could deal with this. Hello!  Could you please join me in praying that I will begin to sleep again?

You make a world of difference, you know.

Much love and many thanks in the Lord,

June
