Update July 2006
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Robin and Joyce are taking their vacation at the moment and so I have been given the task of keeping you up to date this month. In preparing for their trip, Joyce tried hard to leave us with as few major medical issues as possible, and so this month has been a relatively quiet one in terms of surgeries and new babies admitted.
1) Foster Home Shunyi, Beijing ( 26 beds)
The babies
Lou Fu Zhao returned from Tian Jin after corrective surgery on her right leg.
Dang Da Jian and Dang Jian Yu remain in Hong Kong recovering from bladder surgery. We thank Barbara G who remains looking after Jian Yu and Jessica D from the US who has replaced Hayley in looking after Da Jian. Both children are expected to return next month.

We brought in 2 new babies Shi Tian Li (10 months old) and Shi Bao Yi (2 months old) from Urumugi, Xinjiang Province. Both have an imperforate anus and Bao Yi also has a heart condition.

We have seen a break through with one of our children.
Jamie Fu Wen Dong is 2 years old
and cannot walk without support. He was recently bought some new shoes to
aid his walking, which not only caused a stir in his playroom as they light
up as he walks, but have also helped his gait dramatically. He is now able
to take 6 or 7 steps on his own which we thought would never be possible.
2) Love Without Boundaries Shunyi Outreach Foster Program. ( currently 13 children with possible maximum of 20)
All children are well and being monitored regularly. Spencer Sam Fu Tian Suo, who returned to Beijing from Hong Kong last month, is experiencing some discomfort in his recovery and his surgeon will be assessing him during a visit this coming weekend.
3) HFH Special Care Unit, Jiaozuo, Henan Province: ( 12 beds)
We have had one death here this month. Sheree Fu Shi Liu died on July 22nd after suffering with pneumonia for some time. We have admitted one new baby, Fu Jiang Tong, who is 2 months old with a suspected heart condition. Two children from this unit have spent time in Beijing this month. Firstly Fu Chen Chen has been for further investigations to determine her compatibility for a liver transplant and is now back at the unit. Fu Guo Fei has been admitted to hospital in Beijing with a leaking Myelomeningecele which had become infected. She has received surgery to close the sight and the surgeons are waiting for the infection to clear before deciding if a shunt is necessary.

Volunteers.
We have had a number of volunteers working in the unit this month. The Sharps joined Lyn G for a couple of weeks. Dr Van Winkle and his wife volunteered with us from the US. Our thanks go to him as his pediatric advice was incredibly helpful. Lynsay L. spent 5 days at the unit and will return at the end of the month to replace Lucy C and Nicole R who are currently there.
4) LWB Special Care Unit ( 12 beds)
All children are well. Ling Wan Feng has returned from Suzhou hospital and at this point is making a good recovery.
5) HFH Special Care Unit, Luoyang, Henan Province: ( 45 beds)
The supplies have been purchased and the construction work is underway and so we still hope to be able to take in our first lot of babies by September.

1) Terri Coley and her group who bought many needed medical supplies plus an abundance of toys for the playrooms and Kindergarten, as well as helping practically in the home and donating money to our surgical fund.

4) Christina W and Dr R. Foung for their help in caring for the children medically whilst Joyce is away.
Our Needs:
1) We are in particular need of Phenobarbital Elixir, Domperidone and Augmentin
2) There are a number of needs for our Special Care Unit in Jiao Zuo. We need rectal diazepam as well as Lactulose, liquid paraffin, arachis oil enemas or other suitable stool softeners. We also need open weave cotton bandages of varying widths.
3) We have a number of smaller children and so need nappies suitable for premature babies.
4) We are also still in need of ½ inch to 1 inch wide gathered lace.
