Update January 2007 Dear Friends and Supporters, A happy 2007 to you all. May this year be one where peace fills your lives. May your burdens be light and your joys abundant. We at HFH had a rather rough start to the New Year with many babies down with chest infections and the usual winter viruses, so I apologize for my tardiness in writing this month’s newsletter. 1) Foster Home Shunyi, Beijing The babies Fu Jiang Fei is finally home from hospital with complications of neurosurgery. She was in hospital since November. She is extremely weak but is in a stable condition so far. Please keep her in your prayers. Ling Wan Feng continues to have problems with infection in his brain. Huai Chun Xiang has retinoblastoma, malignant tumors in both eyes. After much investigation, soul-searching and discussions with those involved in their care we have come to the heartbreaking conclusion that it would be kinder to give them both palliative care only. They are comfortable and not in any pain for now. We are prepared however much one can prepare one’s self, for the worst. We have moved Daniel Dang Xiao Bing to Agape Family Life House. We are certain that he will achieve his highest potential with the Wyse family in Lang Fang who have kindly offered to care for him long term.
2) Love Without Boundaries Shunyi Outreach Foster Program. Kevin Fu Xiao Xiong and Dang Guo Kun were adopted this month.
3) HFH Special Care Unit, Jiaozuo, Henan Province: ( 12 beds) We have had several deaths here this month. Tiffany Fu Xiao Tian , JT Fu Jian Tong, and Fu Jiang Zhong passed away peacefully . Adam Fu Jun Jie was moved back to the orphanage. 4 new babies were admitted 4) HFH Special Care Unit, Luoyang, Henan Province: 7 new babies were admitted this month bringing the total here to 43 babies. There have been no deaths in this unit in January. 3 babies were moved back into the orphanage in much better conditions compared to when they first came in, 2 children were moved to local foster care under the program run by CEO Foundation and 2 children had heart surgery in Hangzhou and are recovering well. Volunteers. Kerry B, Leslie K and Caitlyn M served in this our Henan units this month. 5) Heartbridge Rehabilitation Unit These most vulnerable children suffered the most with chest infections this month and Lynsay and I were kept well on our toes. Xi Meng Li, Huai Chun Cong and Yang Xin Jia all suffered severe respiratory distress that they had to be intubated and supported on ventilators in 3 different hospitals. Xin Jia’s heart stopped several times and she had to be resuscitated. They are all home now but Chun Cong and Xia Jia’s conditions are still of some concern. Peng Xin Hua was also admitted to hospital in respiratory distress but his pneumonia was not severe and responded quickly to treatment. Dang Jin Yang has had her first heart surgery and reports from Hangzhou say that she is doing well.
Our Most Sincere Thanks To; 1) All those who have sent and are still sending medicines so badly needed by our kids. Thank you all for responding to this important need. 2) The staff of Beijing United hospital this month for their help with all our severely sick children. Their expertise, generosity and quick action have saved the lives of many of our kids. Our Needs: 1) We have started a fund to financially support long-term, suitably qualified, medically trained volunteers. To keep expanding this work that we do, we are always in need of such people and if some are unable to come because of financially difficulties, we would like to bless them by helping with their financial needs while they help us save these babies. If you feel called to contribute to this fund, please contact robin@hopefosterhome.com 2) We are in need of Christmas fabrics for our craft work so that volunteers this summer can work on the Christmas Hearts for Christmas 2007 With our deepest gratitude Joyce and Robin Hill “Each man’s life is but a breath. Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it. But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in You.” Psalm 39 5-6
