Update November 2005

Dear Friends and Supporters,

The cold weather is setting in and as usual our kids have begun suffering from upper and lower respiratory tract infections. Thanks to the generosity of many donors we are well stocked with medications needed to cope with their winter ailments.

All the milk formula stored in Singapore has finally been cleared out of the warehouse. We have been able to supply some of the needs in Pakistan, Cambodia, Africa and the Philippines as well as the needs of our own children here in China. Thanks to everyone who had a part in obtaining, storing and distribution this precious gift. We are however still in need of Soy Formula which is not easy to buy in Beijing. (See “Needs” below)

The babies

Cyndee’s Fu Ya Jing has been picked up by her adoptive mother.  She has been with us for more than 2 years and we saw her go with deep mixed feelings.

Fu Guo Qing had successful neurosurgery in Suzhou on October 29th to close his spinal defect and he is very well. We are monitoring his head circumference hoping to avoid having to put in a shunt and all the on –going complications that go with it. So far he is stable. Tiffany Fu Xiao Tian has returned from hospital having had her blocked shunt cleared and so far she is doing well too. Lois Fu Chun Yi was returned to the Palliative care unit as her prognosis is poor. The nanny who cared for her there before we brought her to Beijing for surgery was overjoyed to have her back despite her condition. She will be well loved and cared for. Parker Dang Zi Run has returned from Australia after craniofacial surgery. He is fascinated by his hearing aids and they are serving him well. He is such a different little boy, outgoing and fearless. Thanks to all those who provided the funds for his aids. The Audiologist in Australia has offered to monitor/fix/adjust his aids for free should any problems arise

We have 8 new babies, from Jiaozuo, Luoyang and Loudi orphanages, all of them vulnerable and needing medical care. Alice Fu Zheng (from Jiaozuo) is fighting for her life in Beijing United Hospital on a respirator. Please keep her in your prayers.

With only one child adopted out this month, I am not too sure how we managed to fit all these new babies in but my staff has threatened to move babies into my bed if any more arrive.

Love Without Boundaries Shunyi Outreach Foster Program.

We have moved another baby Fu Si Yu into our LWB Foster Care program. She is 3months old and was initially admitted to our Special Care Unit in Henan, supposedly dying of pneumonia. She is now very well and has no abnormalities that we can detect at the moment.  We have also housed a young man, Zheng Cao from Gui Zhou province and his 1 year old son Zheng Ping who has cerebral palsy in our Outreach program. He came to Beijing seeking medical help for his son and ended up homeless and begging at the Railway station. His wife abandoned them both but the man refuses to abandon his son. He may choose to stay long term or he may choose to go back to his province but at least for now he is in a warm home, has food and clothing and his son is receiving medical care. Thanks to Love Without Boundaries, we now have 11 families and 14 children in this program.

HFH Special Care Unit , Henan Province:

We had 6 new babies this month, Fu De Hua, Fu Yan, and Alice Fu Zheng( whom we have transferred to Beijing) Fu Jin Wei, Fu Hai Sheng, Fu Hai Xing and Fu Hai Juan. (Premature, died soon after admission)  This brings our total admissions to the Palliative care, of 54 babies since we opened in January this year.  The names of the 18 who have died, are written with love on our memorial wall in Beijing. Fu Tian Lan ( 8 year old) had to be moved back to the orphanage due to lack of beds for the more serious cases.

The Day Room has been sponsored by Open Arms to International Adoption and BICF West is sponsoring a baby’s bedroom. Thank you very much.  There are only 4 rooms not yet sponsored

Our Most Sincere Thanks To;

3)      D and T for their financial gift to use where it is needed most.

4)     Shaohannah’s Hope Foundation for their substantial financial gift and for hosting Rob and myself at their annual dinner in Nashville.

5)     A very special family in Nashville who have blessed us beyond all our expectations.

6)     Everyone in Adelaide, Australia and the surgeons and staff of the Australian Craniofacial Unit of the Women’s and Children’s hospital and Debby T.  who has been part of Dang Zi Run’s surgery, care and recovery for the post 2 months.

7)      The German Christmas Bazaar for their continued financial support

Our Needs:

1)       Please pray for all the 11 children (most of them not from HFH) who will be going to Shanghai and the 2 going to Suzhou for neurosurgery in the next few weeks and for the 4 babies going to Hong Kong for assessments of their bladder problems. Please give praise for the wonderful surgeons and doctors who have willingly offered their services for these children.

2)     We have so many new children who are in need of sponsors. Please contact Becky becky@hopefosterhome.com  if you would like to sponsor a child.

3)     We are still in need of Soy Formula so we would appreciate anyone brining in what they can from outside of China.

4)     There are 2 children from Hefei orphanage who require sponsors to cover their neurosurgery costs in Shanghai. If any one is willing to help, the costs are approximately US$3000 per child and we will send you details and pictures of the children.

With gratitude

Joyce and Robin Hill
