Update May 2006
Dear Friends and Supporters,
1) Foster Home Shunyi, Beijing ( 26 beds)
The babies
Sadly we lost David Dang Shan Qiang , aged 4 years in Singapore after heart surgery. He died of post-operative complications. We sincerely thank the many people who supported him and were involved in his care during the time he was in Singapore. We also lost Harry Fu Zi Jiang. Though his surgery was successful, he died of pneumonia not long after. He was also brain damaged.

Of the 9 children who had surgery last month, 6 are doing very well though Ling Wan Feng was of concern with infection of the skin around his shunt. He was on high dose antibiotics under the direction of his surgeon and has recovered but he may require a revision of his shunt. Dang Fu Xing is still in Singapore recovering from heart surgery and he is reported to be doing well. We expect him back in China in about 2-3 weeks.

2) Love Without Boundaries Shunyi Outreach Foster Program. ( currently 11 children with possible maximum of 20)
Zheng Ping , who has cerebral palsy and his father, whom we housed in our village under this program because they were found begging at the railway station, have decided to leave the village. We now have 11 children in this program. We have a new family who want to be part of this program and they are undergoing the routine medical clearance and training before we offer them a child.
3) HFH Special Care Unit, Jiaozuo, Henan Province: ( 12 beds)
We have had 1 death here this month, Sandy Fu Zi Mei (cleft palate and defective trachea,) died on May 15th after quite a struggle to live. She is finally at peace. Total admissions to this unit since January 1st 2005 is 73 and 29 babies have died.
Volunteers.
Lyn G. was back with us and she was replaced by Jamie I. and Janice B. from the US.
4) LWB Special Care Unit ( 12 beds)
The PT equipment has arrived. We are waiting for the delivery of some small wheel chairs. We thank A Mother’s Love via Love Without Boundaries for covering the cost of the PT equipment. Their gift was more than enough to buy equipment which will be set up both in our Special Care Unit in Henan as well as in our Physical Therapy Unit in Beijing.
5) HFH Special Care Unit, Luoyang, Henan Province: ( 45 beds)
Plans to renovate the 5th floor of this orphanage are going ahead. We hope to be ready to bring in the babies by mid –September this year. Luoyang Orphanage has about 500-600 children. This unit will take in the most vulnerable babies in the hope of saving their lives and will also care for those who have survived but are severely disabled. 3 of the 17 rooms have been sponsored.

Our Needs:
1)
More sponsors are needed to help us renovate the Luoyang Special Care Unit. Details and a floor plan are on our website. Sponsorship of rooms varies from US$1000 to US $6000 depending on the size of the room.2)
We could use some help to pay the hospital bills for 2 children who were operated on in Suzhou last month. Although the surgeons from HK generously donated their time and even covered their own travel and hotel costs, we still have to pay the hospital. Figures are in US dollars and have been rounded for convenience. These figures include the costs of travel of babies and nannies from Beijing to Suzhou and having the nannies stay and care for them.We thank Love without Boundaries for covering the costs for Ling Wan Feng.
We thank Singapore students and UWCSEA Singapore for covering the costs for Fu Hai Sheng,Dang Xin Yang and Fu Hai Xing
The two children below are still in need of sponsorship.
1) Fu Jin Jin ( subdural effusion drainage ).
This is her 3rd surgery... US $13502) Fu Zi Xiu ( Encephalocele repair ,)... US $1700
