Update January 2006
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Our best wishes for the New Year to you all. We hope that this coming year will be one of many special blessings to you and your families. Apart from the traditional Chinese New Year gifts of rice, oil and dried fish to all our staff, we celebrated Chinese New Year by putting on a great firework display which they, their families and the children all enjoyed tremendously. We know for sure that Rob, Lee, Ryan and his friend Lewis L. had a wonderful time setting it all up. Good one, boys!! We herald in another New Year and look forward to see what exciting opportunities our Father has in store for us to be of service.
With approval and encouragement of our board, we will go ahead and open another Special Care unit in Henan Province in the city of Luoyang. As promised, Rob has drawn up a plan and it is now posted on our website. If anyone would like to sponsor rooms in support of this unit, please click on the link http://www.hopefosterhome.com/special_care/luoyang/index.htm

The babies
We lost Philip Fu De Hua to severe pneumonia this month. He also had a congenital heart disease. The doctors at Beijing United Hospital tried their best to save him but it was not to be. We thank them for their efforts.
In response to our appeal last month for a surgeon for Fu Chen Chen, we had several offers of help and within 24 hours she was on her way to Shandong Province where she was operated on by a surgeon recommend by another surgeon in Chicago. The Kasai procedure was done and we are now observing her post-operative recovery and hoping for the best. She is feeding well and putting on weight steadily. We thank Love Without Boundaries for covering the cost of her emergency surgery.
We celebrate the
adoption of Tong Qun Qun (now called Brynna). Her mother and
older sister were here to pick her up and they report that she is doing well
in her new loving family.

We have 3 new babies, Dang Fu Xing (10 months old) who has a complex congenital heart condition and Fu Jin Wei (2 months old) who has Down’s syndrome and a heart condition. Both have been investigated and plans are being made for Dang Fu Xing to have surgery in Singapore. Jin Wei’s heart condition is not severe but he is very undernourished and has a serious chest infection. He is receiving intensive care and his prognosis is guarded. We accepted a new baby from Kaifeng, Guo Lei. (7 months) who has a severe cleft lip and palate and is severely undernourished. We will do our very best for this precious little one.
Our intensive
care unit is full, our isolation unit is full and Lily (see info below) is
being cared for in my office due to lack of space. We can’t wait for the LWB
Unit to open to give us more beds.

HFH Special Care Unit , Henan Province: Lily, aged 2 years, one of longest-staying children (Cerebral Palsy, seizures) in the unit was accidentally severely scalded from the waist down while being given her bath. She was rushed to us in Beijing (no easy feat when the highways are closed, it’s Chinese New Year’s Eve and the fog was thick on the ground). Her burns are extensive and not deep but in areas which are difficult to keep clear of body fluids and excretions, thus she is at a higher risk of infection. . She is being treated in our Intensive care unit. We are so fortunate to have on hand, the drugs and equipment we need to keep her sedated, hydrated and pain-free. So to all those who sent us expensive restricted drugs, dressings, catheters and medication, we sincerely thank you. Your precious gifts are being put to very good use. |
Lily
Another child Fu Hai Yang, a girl (Cleft lip and palate and heart
condition) was brought in within minutes of Lily leaving the SCU for
Beijing, This month we had 3 new babies there. Our beds are always full and
because none of them are small enough to fit into the incubators, 2 are
sleeping on bouncers.
LWB Special Care Unit
The workers are all off for 3 weeks but will be back to put the final touches to the building. All has gone smoothly and we hope to have the kids in there by March.
Our Most Sincere Thanks To;
1) A donor who wishes to remain anonymous, who has offered regular financial support for our Jiaozuo SCU for the rest of this year. This support will cover all the staff salaries and all the “beds” there, supporting all the babies. Thank you so much for helping us carry on with this difficult but necessary work.
2) Those who supplied Colostomy bags, Soy formula and non-slip socks that we requested last month.
3) Those who have kept Joyce’s health in prayer. She is doing very well now and is able to cope with the work.
4) All those who responded to our need for a surgeon for Chen Chen
Our Needs:
Please pray for the survival of Lily and Jin Wei
We desperately need Silversuphadiazine cream for Lily’s burns. We have enough to last maybe only 5 days if we are prudent with it’s use..
We are also in need of
1) Oral Replacement salts
2) Cough and cold meds for infants and young children.
3)
Hydrocortisone 1% cream
With
gratitude
Joyce and Robin Hill
