My first term back at
college has gone well despite the difficulties of settling in at the
beginning. After half term I felt more settled within the year group
as well as finding college life easier in general. I have made new
friends and have found the work less demanding than I was expecting.
The seminar I led on
‘A Christian’s Response To Islamism’ for my cross-cultural class
went well. Thank you for praying about this, I was a bit nervous
having not done one before and being the first person to do one in
the group. However, we ended up having a really good discussion on
the subject, which was great.
Last week I went on a
conference in Swanwick for my cross-cultural course. The conference
was held by Global Connections
(previously the Evangelical Missionary Alliance) who bring together
the mission agencies in the UK. The conference title was Running
on Empty: Are we being shaped by the God of mission??
There were a lot of missionaries and mission organisation directors
at the conference and it was really good to talk with, and learn
from them.
On the 7th
of January until the 12th of February I am going to Lira,
Northern Uganda to work in Displaced People Camps with a Christian
organisation called LightForce International. I am staying in a
house which the organisation rents to accommodate volunteers. During
my stay I could be involved in any of the following:
· Feeding program
· Registration of Displaced People
· Verification of needs in the camps
· Constructing wash shelters
· Practical jobs around the base
· Constructing tents
· Distributing non food items
· Involved in child friendly spaces
· Or any other activity that may be necessary
Due to the fact that
I worked in special needs schools for three years before going to
college I have been asked to pass on my knowledge and skills to a
lady who helps children with special needs while I’m out there. I am
really looking forward to being involved with this type of work
again and I am also looking forward to new challenges and learning
new skills when working in the displaced people camps.
Please pray for
protection and safety during my block placement and pray that God
will use me and really speak to me about my future during my time
away. Please also pray that my health will continue to improve and
that I will stay strong and fit and healthy.
Thanks once again for
your prayers. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.
All my love and God
bless,
Hannah x
