Dear friends,
On Saturday, 7 March 1959, we were married in Aldridge Parish Church
by the
Rector, the Rev Cartmel. We had been members of the youth
group while teenagers and attended the church regularly (plus a
brethren assembly!) and were both in Crusaders. On a number of
occasions I used to preach in the little
mission chapel - I think in
Tynings Lane.
I went to the Aldridge church school and then on to Queen Marys in
Walsall. My wife Pat was at school at King Edwards, in Handsworth,
and
trained as a nurse at Birmingham General Hospital. I flew for 27
years in the RAF and then worked on the staff of the Officers
Christian Union (now the Armed Forces Christian Union) based in
Aldershot for 20 years, before retiring to live near most of our
family in Bourne in Lincolnshire in 2003.
We have four married
children and nine grandchildren. We now worship in
Bourne Baptist
Church where I am an elder (and currently we are without a
minister).
We were privileged to celebrate our Silver Wedding anniversary at
Aldridge, 25 years ago, and were able to give testimony in the
church
to the Lord's goodness to us over many years on that occasion. For
our
Golden Wedding we shall be on holiday in
Cornwall so will not be in
your area - but would love to take this opportunity to thank the
Lord or His continued blessing upon us over such a long time.
If you are able to record in your weekly news leaflet for that
weekend,
our grateful thanks to God for His keeping power and
blessings since 1959 (and before!), we would appreciate it and it
may
be of some encouragement to others that marriage
is alive and well -
particularly when Jesus is involved in it!
We were thrilled to see your website and to know that the church is
thriving
and a great witness in Aldridge. May the Lord continue to
bless and use you
all in His service and in the power of the Holy
Spirit to the glory of our
Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
With every good wish in Him,
Mike and Pat Warwood
PS. Please see one of our motto text cards - and also (for your
amusement)
our plans for the hundred wedding anniversary.
