My name is Joe Standerwick and I am a current student at Nexus Christian Music College. The event I am going to be participating in is the Drumathon, an attempt to break the current Guinness World Record for group endurance drumming .

Drumathons are something of a tradition at Nexus. In 2002 the drum students broke the record for endurance drumming with a time of a mere 27 hours! This record was swiftly broken by staff of a Norwich based music shop with a time of 44 hours. The Nexus drum class in 2005 then managed to get the record back by drumming for 52.15 hours but again the same music shop in Norwich took the record back at 60 hours.
That is the record which stands today and the current Nexus drum class have taken on the challenge this year of going beyond 60 hours and breaking the record for a third time!

As a team we aim to drum for 60 hours and if we can make it until then we will continue for as long as possible. The event is not a relay but continuous drumming from all involved. At least 3 of the 18 drummers taking part must be still drumming at 60 hours for the record to be broken. Every hour we are allowed a 5 minute toilet break or if we feel OK we can save that 5 minutes for another time and possibly accumulate enough time for a power nap!
This is without a doubt the biggest physical and mental challenge I and most of the team have ever undertook and we need your support.

The event itself is part of the annual 'Rag Week' at Nexus where students and staff of the school take part in a variety of events. The sponsorship and fundraising are a vital part of Rag Week but another key aspect is to build on relationships in the school.

Nexus is a charity that relies on the support of partners and fundraising throughout the year. The fees we as students pay is short of what is required to keep Nexus going and Rag Week is the main way as students we can help make up the difference. The money we raise will also benefit next years students with the ability for the school to develop. I and the other students want to give something back to the school through Rag Week as we have seen the benefits of the efforts of last years students in our amazing time at Nexus so far this year.

The Drumathon will start on the morning of Sunday 3rd May and will continue through Sunday, Monday and finish on Tuesday evening if any of us are left!

I would really appreciate your support and sponsorship of the drumathon team. You can sponsor us by the hour at 25p/hr, 50p/hr, £1/hr or any other amount you would like. Also you can offer us a bonus if we are able to break the world record of 60 hours.

If you would like to sponsor the event please send me an e-mail to:
joe.standerwick@btinternet.com

or go online to http://www.justgiving.com/joestanderwick and you can donate there.

Please include your full name, home address, phone/e-mail and how much you would like to sponsor the team. If you are a UK tax player please make this clear so we can 'Gift Aid' your donation and every £1 you donate Nexus can claim an extra 28p.

When we have done the event in May I will then get in touch with you and tell you how it went, how long we managed to drum for and most importantly if we managed to break the record! It is then possible to donate through this Justgiving page when we know how much the donation will be.

Thank you very much for your time and support. Please do get in touch with me via e-mail if you would like to sponsor us or ask some more questions about the event.
