                                     Dear Friends,
The situation with flights to Paraguay changes daily!  It now seems possible that the flight on August 4th will not be operating, so it may mean that the rest of the volunteers cannot come to assist us in the projects.  Please cover it all in prayer, so that whatever happens God helps us to move forward in the best way possible.
We praise the Lord for the way he enabled the 23 volunteers in July to not only arrive safely (if 10 hours late!), get possession of the luggage only 3 days late (when others had to wait two weeks!) and also return safely to their country on the original date, due to the last minute intervention of the CAA!!   Please keep praying! With our love and greetings,
John and Judie.

PRAYER CALENDAR    -  Iglesia Anglicana Paraguaya  -      August 2006

John 14:6   “ Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth and the life….”

1        Today is the 2nd anniversary of the Ycua Balaños supermarket fire in Asuncion. Pray for all those who were affected as they remake their lives & for the judicial proceedings now underway.  The burnt-out shell remains as it was 2 years ago, now daubed with slogans like “Never forget – never forgive” & accusing the owners & municipal leaders of their negligence & responsibility.

2        Due to the bankruptcy of the Brazilian Airline Varig, one group of volunteers has had to cancel their participation this year. Others are able to delay arrival by a week & come in on Saturday 5th.  Pray for Phil Grainger & the group going to La Patria in the Chaco, and for the other four volunteers who will now participate in various activities in Asuncion.

3        Give thanks for the enthusiasm & hard work of David Oritt & the team from Northern Ireland, who commenced the work in Emboscada last month & pray that the first stage of the retreat centre there can still continue with local help.  Pray for David’s mother currently in hospital.

4        Give thanks too for the team of volunteers who worked in Concepcion last month, constructing an indigenous hostel & a caretaker’s house. Pray for the finishing of this project & for the work amongst children already established there in Barrio Inmaculada.

5        Pray for the service in Zeballos Cue tomorrow as they remember in prayer the many people in their area who lost family members in the supermarket fire.  For Paolo & Ramon as they lead & preach & for the church council & congregation as they reach out to the bereaved. Pray for   Alberto & Ester Romero & the family, as God guides them into the next stage after Alberto’s resignation as pastor of the church.  For God’s wisdom & overruling in all decisions.

6        Pray for the two babies who have recently arrived at the Esperanza Foster Home & for those who have been already adopted into new families.  For Murray & Penny in their oversight, & for Juana, Carmen & Gloria in the daily routine & care of the babies.

7        Pray for the ongoing ministry to needy children though the San Andres congregation & give thanks for the Irish volunteers who assisted in a children’s club for them during the school holidays. For the building up of a team to work alongside pastor Agustin & Teresa.

8        Pray for Chris & Alison Hawksbee, & for Chris’ regular visits to the indigenous communities in the Chaco.  Pray for steady advance in the use of their land to generate both food & income. Pray for rain.  Although we are in the dry winter season the temperatures are still very high, the earth is parched after several months of drought & the water cisterns (aljibes) are empty.

9        Pray for God’s peace & strength for the staff & pupils of St. Andrew’s & the Annexe Schools as Primary & Secondary exams start this week. Also for their health  -  there are several of the staff, or members of their family, who have had surgery or are undergoing long term treatment.

10   There were two pupils at the Annexe School recently diagnosed with TB, which is a serious,  ongoing problem in Paraguay.   Pray for these children & for those indigenous patients who are under treatment, that they may all regularly continue their course & be fully restored to health.

11   Continue to pray for safety for the volunteers who are working in La Patria, Chaco.  For pastor Robert & the 3 deacons, Agripino, Niño Pepe & Mario & those who assist them in the congregations there.  For bishop Andres as he visits and gives in service training.

14    Pray for Tim Curtis & his team of translators & their families.  Give thanks for the work done, despite the high temperatures even during the winter months. Pray for more Enxet speaking people in La Herencia able to check over the texts already produced by the team.

15   Pray for tomorrow’s celebrations for Children’s Day in St. Andrew’s School & for the final year class as they prepare to leave St. Andrew’s in December & continue at university.  For a deep work of God’s Spirit in them during these last few months.
