                          PRAYER CALENDAR  -   Iglesia Anglicana Paraguaya  -    September 2005

 John 17: 11b “Holy Father protect them by the power of your name- the name you gave me, so that they may we one as we are one.”

 1         Give thanks for answered prayer for Phil Grainger and all the volunteers who have participated in Project Paraguay over the last two months. For their good health & safety in travel. For the blessings received as Christians shared together despite the language difficulties, & for the buildings constructed in San Juan, ConcepciónKarandá, El Estribo & in Zeballos Cue, Asunción.

2         Pray for Bishop John & Judie as they visit Concepción this weekend & spend time with Bishop Andres & Estela & the team  working there. For pastor Guillermo, Rossi & the family, Claire & Alison. For Claire’s ministry amongst children & their families.

3         Pray for God’s guidance & strength for Ed Brice as he begins the next study week tomorrow in Rio Verde & for the indigenous pastors & leaders who attend. For Mari as she supports the training of Sunday School teachers in the Chaco churches & provides materials in the Enxet language. Pray too for openings for work for their sons Neill & Javier as they continue their studies in Asunción.

4         The congregation in Roque Alonso continue their ( 40 days) daily readings in “The purpose driven life”  with weekly meetings in 25 homes & supporting sermons & worship on Sundays.  Pray for pastor Cefe & Ana, pastor Luis & Regina & the lay leaders that through this tremendous effort many may grow in their faith & commitment to the Lord, especially recent church members.

5         Pray for wisdom, protection & discernment for pastor Tony & Chris as they meet with several couples going through deep rooted marital problems.  For the work of the Holy Spirit in these couples to bring repentance & forgiveness & acceptance of the lordship of Christ in their lives.

6         Give thanks for all  who have participated in EMA  or REMA weekends & pray for those who attend the follow up meetings.  For a spiritual awakening in some or deeper commitment in others.  For all the preparations for the next EMA weekend, 23-25 September & for the resources needed.

7         Pray for the nation of Paraguay, the President & his government as they debate again the Anti Discrimination Bill which was previously rejected.  The Senate is not prepared to accept any modification of the Bill, so a direct vote for or against will be needed.  Pray for courage for those who understand the implications of some parts of the Bill which  go against the Word of God.  For the interdenominational group of Christians as they  try to present this to the senators & deputies.

8         Pray for the many children’s groups meeting on Saturday afternoons throughout the diocese & for their leaders.  For the resources needed for teaching & play materials & to provide drinks for the children, essential  in a hot country.   For pastor Alberto & the congregation in Zeballos Cue in their pilot scheme to give a nourishing meal a week to children in the surrounding area, with the hope of extending it later on.

9         Pray for the 2nd retreat weekend for young people from the San Andres evening congregation, giving thanks for the positive impact of  the first retreat.  For Patrick & Rosie, pastor Agustin & Teresa, with lay leaders Norman, Donald & Andy.  For those who now wish to be baptized.

10     Pray for pastor Cefe & his team visiting Quyquyhó this weekend. For follow up of contacts made in previous visits & for the ongoing development of inter church projects to benefit the community.

11     Pray for  Eileen & Stephen Trew with their teaching responsibilities & also oversight of the St. Andrews congregation.  For their young family & for Stephen especially, as he tries to find time to meet together  with other church leaders. For Murray & Penny as they work with them.

12     Pray that the leaders in the Chaco communities may be able to work together openly & honestly in the production & sale of honey. That Christians may be involved in this & share & live out biblical values in their participation. Give thanks for a storeroom for honey recently constructed in El Estribo by Project Paraguay & for continued wisdom & strength for Chris Hawksbee as he visits & encourages the communities. For Alison & the family in Asunción.

13     Pray for Gwen Carlisle & the Senior Management team at St. Andrew’s School & for the interviews taking place for new pupils next year.  For the Sports Day programmes this week & for the preparations for Youth Day activities next Wednesday 21st.

14     Give thanks & pray for God’s blessing on a new initiative manned by families from the Annexe School to regularly feed 30 children in the San Vicente area of the Chacarita.  Pray too for Sharon McCreerie as she shares the father love of God with desperately needy children who have never known  true family care & attention.  Give thanks for greater spiritual response amongst many of the 9th grade children & pray for these pupils who will be leaving the school at the end of the year.

15     Give thanks for all those in the Luque church who renewed their commitment to the life of the local congregation & pray for outreach in the area amongst friends & neighbours.  Give thanks for former members who have now returned to the fellowship & pray for their growing commitment.  For pastor Jorge & Rebeca & their family & for the training of leaders in the music group. Continue to pray for Samuel’s health & for Sara & the family.

16     Give thanks for good participation in study courses in the  San Andres morning congregation & pray for the plans to start daily readings of “The Purpose driven church” , as is already underway in the Roque Alonso congregation.  For a study day on Sunday 18th.  Pray for pastor Agustin & Teresa & for a deep work of the Holy Spirit in their daughter Laura & her husband Rodrigo.

17     Pray for Alison & the young people in the congregation in Concepción.  For outreach on Saturday evenings in “El Puente” & for the youth service tomorrow evening. Give thanks for funds to help students:  Javier- medical studies; Zuny & Jorge - teacher training; Sandra & Mirian – English classes; Victor – hairdressing; Rut & Saul finishing their secondary studies. Pray for each of them.

18     Pray for Tim Curtis & the team as they continue their translation of the Old Testament. Pray for  their times of sharing & prayer together each morning & for their health & that of their families.  For God’s protection on the Anglican Centre in Rio Verde & for the provision of rain. Due to the prolonged drought families in Rio Verde are now using water from the cisterns in the Centre.

19     Give thanks for the visit this week of Cesar Guzman from the Santiago Theological Seminary in Chile. Pray for the morning & evening sessions with clergy & lay leaders.

20     Give thanks for the growing number of families in the Zeballos Cue congregation. Pray for pastor Alberto & Ester & the discipleship courses & for God’s hand on many with health problems.  Pray for the completion of the multi-purpose room built by Project Paraguay & for its good use. Give thanks for the offer from a dentist to attend there regularly & pray for the provision of dental equipment & materials to make this possible.  So many heath problems are  caused through rotting teeth & subsequent infections.

21     On “Youth Day”,  pray for the young people in Paraguay, especially those who have responded to the gospel, that they may make a positive contribution to the nation’s life to bring about change & not be resigned or forced into accepting the corrupt models of the past.

22     Pray for EJE this weekend 23-25 , that lives will be changed by the Holy Spirit as young people are challenged in their relationships with God & their families. For Patrick, Rosie & Donald & the large team of helpers.  For Raquel Greco continuing her work & study experience in Northern Ireland.

23     Pray also for the EMA weekend starting tonight. For each couple participating; for the care of their children at home & for the large supporting team. For God’s protection on the leaders.

24     Give thanks for advances in the dialogue with the Evangelical University’s governing body & FEISA about FEISA’s identity as a faculty & educational institution.  Pray for the role of Sra. Estela in this process & for all the staff & students.

25     Pray for the Villa Guarani congregation, giving thanks for Benicio & Miguela’s participation since the last EMA weekend. For a lay leadership team to accompany pastor Tony & Chris.

26     Pray for protection for Beryl Baker as she travels both in the Chaco & to Asunción & for God’s strength & guidance for her in her busy clinic.  Give thanks that Arsenio has been re-accepted as a health auxiliary by the Makxawaya community & pray for the building up of good relationships.

27     Pray for relaxation for the staff of St. Andrew’s School during this half term break. Give thanks for the steady recovery of Gloria Morel after suffering 60% burns in the supermarket fire a year ago & pray for her complete healing. Gloria plans to return to teaching next year.

28     Pray for the mutual support & understanding between the Chaco pastors & lay leaders, that their knowledge & understanding of Scripture may help them to overcome cultural prejudices.

29     Give thanks for greater security in the Diocesan Office & pray for  God’s blessing on the staff – Teodosio,  Osvaldo, Lina &  Zuny.  For their weekly time of Bible study & prayer together & for Osvaldo’s ministry to indigenous patients.

30     Pray for the wise development of the work in San Lorenzo amongst children & adolescents & for the Bible studies with adults to restart on Saturday afternoons.
