Dear Prayer Partners,
Unbelievably we are entering into November and our time for home ministry leave fast approaches. We leave on December 20th and return on March 3rd. We look forward to being in contact with many of you and are very appreciate of your support.  It has been a very eventful year, with many blessings but also much tragedy. We thank God for his faithfulness and strength throughout it all. With our love and greetings in the Lord Jesus,

PRAYER CALENDAR   -    Iglesia Anglicana Paraguaya   -  November 2004

 James 1:5  “ If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask of God, who gives generously to all ...”

 1         Pray for the Provincial bishops & diocesan delegates at the Synod  meetings taking place in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. For discernment & wisdom over the Provinces’ response to the Windsor Report.

2         Pray for the many preparations being made for end of term exams & activities at St. Andrew’s School & the Annexe School.  For God’s peace & strength at a time of intense concentration alongside rising summer temperatures.  For wisdom in helping  pupils with behavioural problems.

3         The nation of Paraguay is passing through a time of great unrest & economic difficulty. There are frequent suicides, murders, robberies with violence & a wave of kidnappings, some with fatal results.  Pray for God’s mercy on us & for  wisdom, strength & perseverance for the President & his government to tackle the high level of corruption & implement better security & justice.   

4         Give thanks for rain in many parts of the country. Pray for more adequate rainfall in the area of El Estribo, Sombrero Piri and La Patria, so that crops can be planted. Give thanks for better organization in some indigenous communities & pray for others to work together for mutual benefit.

5         There is an urgent need to replace pastor Alberto’s vehicle, for his varied & demanding  ministry in Zeballos Cue. Give thanks for the contacts made through the church with victims of the supermarket fire & pray for wisdom for Alberto & others as they visit, encourage & present the gospel to them.  

6         Pray for the church prayer vigil tonight in Roque Alonso & for those who will be baptized tomorrow in a united service with the Remansito & Mirador congregations. Give thanks for the response to the evangelistic outreach last month & pray for the follow up with adults & young people.

7         Give thanks for the visit by Bible Society consultants to the translation centre in Rio Verde to update the computer programmes - the equipment is working well despite the dust & high temperatures. Pray for God’s continued protection on Tim,  the translators, their families, the equipment & buildings and on Genaro & Clorinda as they take care of the Anglican Centre in Rio Verde.

8         Pray for discernment, strength & God’s protection on the team in Concepcion as they minister to many people in & around the city.  Give thanks that Alison is remaining for an extra year to consolidate the work amongst young people & pray for her family in Ireland. For Claire as she directs the children’s ministry & trains local leaders.

9         Pray for the young people contacted through EJE San Andres who are attending the evening service in the centre of Asuncion that there might be spiritual awakening & commitment.   For Patrick & Rosie, pastor Agustin & Teresa & their team in this  weekly ministry.  Pray too for the morning San Andres congregation,  especially for strength & comfort for Isabel whose fiancé was recently electrocuted in a violent storm, as he tried to help others..   

10     Give thanks for recent reconciliation between church members in Makxawaya & pray for pastor Juan Sosa & his assistants in a demanding ministry. For God’s protection over the young people & a greater unity in the community against the sale of alcohol. For wise development of the land.

11     Pray for the diocesan office staff with so many visitors & demands on their time. For Osvaldo as he deals with indigenous patients, (& accompanying family members), who are in hospitals in the city. Pray for God to supply finance for the Discretionary Fund to cover the increasing medical costs.

12     Give thanks for the positive visit by FEISA students to Chaco village schools. Pray for wisdom over the development of materials for pre school use & for further training for indigenous teachers.  For Eileen Murphy as she is soon to retire, giving thank for her enormous input into Christian education in Paraguay through St. Andrew’s School & FEISA.

13     Give thanks too for Molly Cooper’s long ministry here, & although already “retired”,  still working hard in prayer ministry through “Lydia” & support for FEISA. For God’s hand on Molly & Eileens’ plans for the next stage of their lives after leaving Paraguay.

14     Pray for Bishop John & the pastoral team at St. Andrew’s church in today’s Remembrance Day service. Pray for those who do not usually attend church, that the service may be used by the Lord to speak into their hearts & minds & bring them into a new relationship with him. 

15     Give thanks for Mari Brice’s work with the Chaco Sunday Schools & pray for each teacher & child involved in the many different communities. Give thanks too for Ed’s better health & pray for his in-service teaching ministry amongst the indigenous leaders. For safety in travel in the long journeys.

16     Pray for Bishop John & the pastors & mission partners who are away on retreat today & tomorrow. For a time of quiet personal reflection & also time to share as colleagues. For the guidance of the Holy Spirit as they meditate on God’s purposes for individuals & also his church as a Body. 

17     Pray that our financial needs as a diocese may be met -  for salaries, for vehicles & their running & maintenance costs, for Christian education both in the cities & in the Chaco, for evangelism & outreach, for more church buildings in rural areas & help for those living in precarious housing. Pray that we may trust the Lord & move forward in wisdom & faith. Pray for Mags Southern- diocesan treasurer, Teodosio Rivas-administrator & their finance team.

18     Pray for the Lord’s guidance in the consultations & preparations for visits by volunteers to Paraguay next year.  Give thanks for this expression of love & interdependence in God’s family & pray for wisdom & good co-ordination between all involved, both in Paraguay & in other countries.

19     Pray for God to supply the financials needs of the translation team next year & for good links & contacts for Tim Curtis with supporting churches during his home ministry leave- mid January to mid April.  Pray for the involvement of other Enxet church members in the reading & checking of the first draft texts. 

20     Give thanks for the blessing received through the  ministry of EJE among young people. Pray for the church in Roque Alonso as they look for a leader & bring together a supporting leadership team. Give thanks for the inspiration of studying ICP( church with a purpose)  & also VCP (life with a purpose) & pray that each member will be committed in the correct sphere of ministry.

21     Give thanks for new Christians in the Zeballos Cue congregation. Pray for pastor Alberto as he disciples them & for strength & perseverance for the lay ministry team forming in the church. For the plans to create a permanent “Ludoteca” ( play area for young children) as part of the ongoing therapy for children affected by the supermarket fire in Asuncion.

22     Tomorrow the Chaco pastors meet with bishops John & Andres in Asuncion & on Wednesday morning in CALEB with their city colleagues. Give thanks for these opportunities to share & pray together that there may be a growing love & mutual support between us all.  For God’s guidance over requests for the ordination as deacons of other indigenous church leaders. For wisdom for the Diocesan Executive meeting this afternoon.

23     Pray for the children’s group by the river bank in San Francisco, Zeballos Cue & for Clara, Carolina & Primitiva as they lead it.  Give thanks for their faithfulness despite tragedy. It was Primitiva’s son Saul Romero, who disappeared at night from his home over a year ago & no trace has yet been found of him.

24     Pray for the end of term programme with parents in St. Andrew’s Pre school tomorrow night & for Analía Yebran & Eileen Trew in their leadership roles.  Pray for opportunities to present the gospel to family members & that the children may learn spiritual truths early in their lives.

25     Pray for pastor Tony & Chris as they share about REMA (Marriage enrichment renewal) & seek God’s guidance in developing  REMA in local churches. Pray that Paraguayan couples might be willing to lead & share their testimony of how God has changed & enriched their marriages.

26     Pray for the congregation in Villa Guarani church –that commitment to Christ might be reflected in commitment to a local church.  For outreach among couples & young people, giving thanks for new sports facilities.

27     Each last Sunday of the month there is an evangelistic service in Luque. Pray for pastor Jorge & his team tomorrow & for those people who have already made commitments & are doing the SEAN “Abundant Life”  discipleship course.  Pray too for the evening service at San Andres in the centre.

28     Give thanks for the work of the Annexe School, its Director Victor Santa Cruz & his staff.  Pray for the end of term programme on Tuesday & for God’s protection on the children as the summer holidays begin,  many of whom live in very marginalised situations. Pray for the various clubs run by Sharon McCririe & for wisdom over the setting up of a hostel for children/adolescents who need short term accommodation due to family problems.

29     Pray for the lay leaders in San Juan, Concepcion, that they may continue to have the Lord’s strength & guidance as they work through a sad family difficulty.  Give thanks for the new accommodation & church building there & pray for its future development.  Give thanks that St. Andrew’s School students were able to stay there & support the work in Yvapobo recently.  Pray for bishop Andres & Estela, pastor Guillermo & Rossi, Claire & Alison, together with other lay leaders.

30     Pray for Chris & Alison Hawksbee as they seek God’s guidance over their future ministry. For God to raise up more national or expatriate workers to cover the needs in the diocese.  For opticians to visit the Chaco; for a couple to help develop the children’s ministry in San Lorenzo; for teachers at St. Andrew’s School; for youth & children’s workers; for nurses; for residential care workers.
