                              IGLESIA  ANGLICANA PARAGUAYA  -  Prayer Calendar  -  April 2005

 John 19:30 “..It is finished...”     Revelation 21:6 “...It is done... I am the Alpha and Omega...”

 1         Give thanks for Christ’s finished work on the cross & pray that the Easter week reflections may give us confidence to share our faith with others.   Pray also for Bishops John & Andres as they meet, today & tomorrow in Lima, Peru with the other bishops of the Southern Cone province to consider their response to the Windsor Report & the Primates’ Statement. 

2         Pray for the leaders  from across the Southern Cone who attend the Study week in Lima- 4th-9th with the theme “An Anglican church that is biblical & relevant to the Southern Cone.  For the delegates from Paraguay. Pray too for God’s strength & peace for Claire Holmes on compassionate leave in Ireland due to her mother’s rapidly deteriorating health.

3         Pray for Ed Brice as he leads the Chaco pastors in biblical studies in the  Rio Verde centre-2nd-5th. For Genaro & Clorinda & family as they care for the Anglican Centre & receive patients & vistors.

4         Give thanks for continued contact in Zeballos Cue with fire victims. Pray for the ongoing building projects & for the spiritual witness of pastor Alberto & church volunteers.

5         Pray for the health of Mission Partners & Paraguayan colleagues after a very long, hot summer period & for pastor Agustin’s grandson, Aaron,  recovering from another leg operation.  Pray too for the patients from the Chaco who are in hospital in Asuncion & for Osvaldo Recalde as he attends them.  For sufficient funds for fuel for transport, medicines  & medical supplies, fares & food.

6         Pray for the ministry among young people in Concepcion & for “El Puente” – a coffee bar outreach.  For pastor Guillermo, Alison Crawford & their team.  Pray also for Bishop Andres & Estela in their wide ministry in the city & in the country areas around.  For the strengthening of lay leaders in isolated places – San Juan, Yvypobo, & Tacuati.

7         Pray for Chris Hawksbee as he seeks financial support to return to work in Paraguay.  There are many indigenous communities asking for his help & expertise in the development of their land. For Alison & Benjamin in Asuncion,  & Hannah & Samuel in the UK.  For adequate rainfall in the Chaco area.

8         Pray for safe travel & smooth adaptation to life in Paraguay for a group who arrive here tomorrow from a church in Cheltenham.  For God’s guidance as we share fellowship across cultural barriers. Pray also for the interdenominational study day tomorrow for pastors in preparation for the visit of Franklin Graham here in May.

9         Pray for the weekly Sunday evening youth service in the San Andrés church in the centre of Asunción. For God’s wisdom for Patrick & Rosie & their team as they encourage young people contacted through EJE to become part of the Body of Christ, the church.

10     Pray for the ministry of St. Andrew’s congregation to English speaking people.  Several families will shortly be leaving to return to their own countries, including staff from the British Embassy which, sadly,  is to be closed down in June.  Pray for good arrangements to be made to cover UK passport holders in Paraguay & for wisdom for the Paraguayan government as they respond to this withdrawal. For President Nicanor Duarte Frutos & his wife Gloria & their family.

11     Pray for the 2nd Year group from St. Andrew’s School who will be visiting Concepción for the next few days as part of their school social involvement programme.  For safety in travel & a greater awareness for the young people of the inequalities within their nation & the need to bring reform.

12     Pray for wisdom & discernment Bishop John & the Finance Committee as they meet today to study the new tax laws being brought into operation in Paraguay  and how this affects the church as a non profit making organization.

13     Pray for the CALEB & Paso a Paso groups, on Wednesday mornings & evenings,  as ordained & lay leaders study 1 Thessalonians and reflect on how the gospel gives life to the church. Pray that God will raise up & encourage leaders in the local congregations, who will take on  responsibility to “teach others also”.  Pray that young people will commit themselves to the study of God’s Word.

14     Pray for Tim Curtis as he returns to Paraguay today to continue his translation ministry  in the Chaco. For the three Enxet translators, Martin, Juan & Asunción & their families, especially for Juan’s health.

15     Pray too for all the preparations going ahead for the two EJE weekends in the centre later this month - especially the restarting of one for pupils in St. Andrew’s School, that this may bring many of the older pupils to a deeper commitment to Christ. 

 

 

 

16     Today there is a programme called REMA, which follows on from EMA weekends, giving couples who experienced Marriage Encounter weekends several years ago, time to reflect on & refresh their commitment to each other.  Pray for the leaders, some from Chile,  & all who participate.

17     Give thanks for all the church leaders  in the Chaco &  pray for strength & perseverance in very difficult circumstances.  For the young people, who are being exposed more and more to global consumerism,  that they may be convinced by the Holy Spirit of what is truly worthwhile in life.

18     Pray for the Bible study sessions in El Estribo this week with Ed Brice & give thanks that some of the Enxet women are keen to join in the studies & prepare for more participation in ministry.  Pray for guidance over adult literacy in the Chaco.

19     Give thanks for the large intake of students to FEISA this year.  Pray for the staff, especially Sra. Estela, as they adapt to Eileen Murphy’s absence & pray for Eileen as she adapts back to the UK after so many years service in Paraguay.  Also for strength & grace for Molly Cooper as she completes last minute arrangements & prepares to join her later this year. 

20     The oversight of the congregation in Formosa is still not clear. Pray for leaders from Paraguay who continue to visit & for wise decisions to be made between the two dioceses. For God’s hand on the members during this lengthy time of uncertainty & for God’s choice of a resident pastor.

21     Give thanks for the ministry in Remansito – pray for pastors Cefe & Luis, with their team as they evangelize & also consolidate contacts made.  For the regular children’s group on Saturday afternoons. For the congregations in different parts of Roque Alonso as they visit homes in preparation for the Franklin Graham evangelistic campaign “ Mi Esperanza” next month.

22     Pray for pastor Tony & Chris Somervell,  & their family, as they combine their ministry in Villa Guarani with the EMA programme. For wisdom over priorities,  & strength & discernment in prayer ministry.  For God to raise up more leaders to join them in the pastoral team. Pray also for Patrick, Rosie & pastor Agustín as the EJE weekend commences tonight

23     Pray for Bishop Andrés as he visits the indigenous community of La Patria this weekend. For quality time in teaching & fellowship with the pastors & lay leaders there.  Pray that the four deacons, Robert, Agripino, Mario & Niño Pepe may be more united in their study of God’s Word together & in their need to learn Spanish.

24     Give thanks for the ministry amongst children in Concepcion & the acquisition of land in Horqueta & Yvapobó– pray for the leaders in Claire’s absence & the development of the work.

25     Give thanks for unexpected help in obtaining a more suitable vehicle for pastor Alberto in Zeballos Cue, to facilitate his wide ministry in a poor area where the roads are in atrocious condition.  Pray for the integration of families affected by the supermarket fire into the congregation. 

26     Pray for young people & adults in Asunción & Concepción who are keen to study in order to improve their situation & be able to obtain work. Give thanks for funds received so far to enable this to begin to happen & pray for perseverance & vision. For wisdom over the selection of students.

27     Give thanks for Doña Bety’s improved health & pray for the congregation in Rio Verde & for those who visit them regularly from Asunción.  Continue to pray for the provision of a hospital in the huge Chaco area & for the indigenous health auxiliaries in their different communities.  Give thanks for Beryl Baker’s faithful & sacrificial work in her Chaco clinic & pray for God’s grace & protection on her & on the constant stream of patients amongst  whom she works.

28     Give thanks for the ministry amongst children in San Lorenzo & pray for its development  & for Phil Grainger & the volunteer group preparing to build a more adequate base for them. Pray for all those coming to work through Project Paraguay during July & August, giving thanks for their loving concern for the people of Paraguay. 

29     The 2nd EJE weekend starts tonight – pray for strength for the large team involved & for a deep work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the young people taking part, which will affect their families also. Pray for whole families to realize their spiritual need & come to a commitment to Christ. Give thanks for the work in Luque  & pray for God to raise up musicians & singers to accompany pastor Jorge & Rebeca.    

30     Pray for the staff & pupils of the Annexe School & for the out of school activities headed up by Sharon McCririe, with Murray & Penny Metcalfe.  Pray also for wisdom for the Metcalfes in their plans for a home for babies awaiting adoption.  For the right house & for the right Christian couple to run it, giving thanks for funds received so far.
