Please focus
prayer on the Project Paraguay team - 54 people arriving during July and
August. Also for real rest and good health for the teachers and their families -
St. Andrew's and FEISA during the winter break. They have a long term ahead of
them afterwards!

PRAYER CALENDAR - Iglesia Anglicana Paraguaya - August 2005
1 Today is the anniversary of the terrible supermarket fire in Asuncion when well over 400 people died, hundreds were badly injured & many children were orphaned. Pray for the families trying to rebuild their shattered lives & for a just outcome to the judicial proceedings. As yet there has been no trial & the burnt remains of the outer wall still stand as a stark reminder of the tragedy.
2 Give thanks for the building work done by the groups of volunteers from Ireland, New Zealand & England in both Zeballos Cue & Concepcion & for their loving witness to so many Paraguayan Christians. Pray for Phil Grainger & David Orritt as they continue here for another month.
3 Pray for the group of 17 volunteers who arrive tomorrow to continue the building in Zeballos Cue & also begin to construct a church in the indigenous community of Karanda, El Estribo. For God’s protection on each one & his strength to enable adaptation to a very different culture.
4 Pray for the Roque Alonso annexe congregation in El Mirador – many of whom are in very needy situations & for pastor Luis & his wife Regina as they minister to them. Give thanks that Gregorio (Regina’s brother paralysed in a random shooting a year ago) is gradually recovering sensation in his body. Pray for his full recovery & for God’s strength & grace in his life.
5 Give thanks for families who are now part of the Villa Guarani congregation through participation in EMA weekends. Pray for pastor Tony & his wife Chris as they continue their commitment to EMA & also minister in the local church. Pray for wisdom & provision for 2 poor families who attend the church who are struggling in very difficult family situations.
6 Pray for safety in travel & good health for Ed Brice as he continues in-service training of pastors & leaders in the Chaco. For God to raise up more & more Christian leaders to serve him in the many different indigenous communities. Pray for Mari Brice as she encourages Sunday School teachers & provides materials for the children. Give thanks for the translation team helping to put these into the Enxet language. Pray also for the young people ( from EJE) who are helping to build houses with Habitat today in Benjamin Aceval.
7 Pray for pastor Jorge & the Luque congregation as they renew their church membership today. For God’s healing touch on Samuel as he awaits the final medical analysis from Argentina, giving thanks for support given to Samuel by the congregation in Belgrano, Buenos Aires.
8 Pray for the revision being done today of the World Day of Prayer service for 2007, prepared in Paraguay. For wisdom, discernment & the unity of the Holy Spirit for the delegates from many different denominations as final corrections are discussed & implemented.
9 Pray for the regular Wednesday morning CALEB meetings for pastors & church leaders, as we study 2 Timothy together. For an ongoing maturity in our relationship with God & with each other. For wisdom to discern God’s will over future episcopal leadership in the diocese of Paraguay.
10 Pray for the new team that has been appointed to the national Adoption Centre in Asuncion & for their speedy approval for the opening of the Esperanza Foster Home. For Murray & Penny as they await the decision & for those preparing to work & care for the babies awaiting adoption.
11 Give thanks for support which enables several young people in reduced circumstances to continue their studies. Pray for strength & perseverance for the students in their:- medical, dressmaking, English, Business management, market research, teacher training & secondary school studies.
12 Pray for the indigenous community of Sombrero Piri as it celebrates its 25th anniversary this weekend. For the school children’s display today, the Young People’s event tomorrow & the Sunday services which will include baptisms & also thanksgiving for the life & service of pastor Pancho Fernandez who recently died. Pray for pastors Elvio & Teodoro in their great responsibilities & for each of the lay leaders & the church councils.
13 Pray for bishop Andres & Estela & the team in Concepcion & their wider ministry in the surrounding areas. Give thanks for the completion of the Anglican Centre in San Juan & pray that this may be a place of great blessing for those who meet there. For Alison & the young people as they meet tonight in “El Puente” & in their service tomorrow evening.
14 Pray for the St. Andrew’s congregation & for Stephen & Eileen Trew & the pastoral team ministering there. For those members who have recently moved away to other countries, that they may continue to find Christian fellowship & teaching & grow in their faith. For new contacts to open up amongst English speaking people in Asuncion.
15 Pray for God’s protection on the pupils, staff & buildings of St. Andrew’s & the Annexe Schools. For wisdom & strength for Head Gwen Carlisle, Deputy Head Mags Southern & the Senior Management team. For God’s peace in the school as exams begin in the last two weeks of August.
16 Today is Children’s Day – pray for the children in each congregation that they may come to know Christ whilst they are young. For all those who work amongst children & for the celebrations in the pre-primary & primary section of St. Andrew’s School.
17 Continue to pray for the volunteers working with Project Paraguay in Zeballos Cue and Karanda, Chaco. For good communication between us despite languages difficulties, giving thanks that God’s love unites us as a worldwide family. For safety & good health for all involved.
18 Give thanks for Chris Hawksbee’s ministry to the Chaco communities & pray for new openings in the use of their land in order to provide income for the people. Give thanks for greater possibilities in the production & sale of honey. Pray for safety in travel & for Alison & the family in Asuncion.
19 Pray for Beryl Baker in her Chaco clinic at this very busy time of year due to the great changes of temperature in the winter months & for the Chaco health auxiliaries in the different communities. For clarity over Arsenio’s role in Makxawaya & Norma Alvarez’ role in Yatnata. Pray that God will raise up men & women with a desire to serve their people in this way & for the provision of a hospital in the huge Chaco area.
20 Pray for pastors Cefe & Luis & the congregation in Roque Alonso as they begin “40 days with a Purpose”, reading a chapter of “ The Purpose driven Life” each day & meeting in groups once a week to share & consolidate what is read. Give thanks for all those who are leading or have opened their homes to invite in neighbours & pray for a deep work of the Holy Spirit in each life.
21 Pray for the congregation in Rio Verde & the group forming in Nueva Mestre. For the lay leaders & those who visit regularly. For God’s protection & strength for Genaro & Clorinda & their family in the Anglican Centre there.
22 Give thanks for the faithful & consistent work of Tim, Martin, Asuncion & Juan in the translation of the Old Testament into Enxet & for receiving sufficient funds to replace Tim’s vehicle with a new model. Pray for good health & concentration during the cooler winter months & for the translators’ families.
23 Give thanks for God’s protection on Bishop John & Genaro Riquelme when a cow crossed in front of their vehicle as they travelled back at night on the Transchaco road & despite the lack of communication in that part of the Chaco, they were able to obtain help. Continue to pray for all those who travel frequently by bus or truck to the Chaco & Concepcion. Pray too for the funds needed to maintain vehicles.
24 Pray for wisdom for Patrick & Rosie as they steer EJE forward this year & for the late night Tuesday Bible studies with university students. Pray too for the Sunday evening services & for Norman & Donald as they begin to share in the leadership of them.
25 Give thanks for the start of a “Ludoteca” – Toy Library – at San Andres church last month, staffed mainly by students from FEISA. Pray that this will continue to be both a blessing to the children & also bring contact for the gospel with their parents. For pastor Agustin & Teresa & their family.
26 Tomorrow is the 2nd REMA meeting for couples who have already experienced an EMA weekend. Give thanks to God for the blessings received in so many marriages & pray for couples who are still struggling to give & receive forgiveness within the family. For the EMA committee in their leadership & for the regular follow up meetings on Friday evenings.
27 Pray for the staff & pupils of the Annexe School & for Sharon McCreerie in her many out of school contacts with the children & young people. For God’s guidance over the feasibility of opening a short term hostel for young people in difficult family situations. Pray too for the students & staff at FEISA & for God’s overruling in the discussions within the Evangelical University with regard to our legal status.
28 Pray for strength & safety for the staff at the Diocesan office. Give thanks for the funds received to improve the security, drainage & parking in the area around the San Andres church, diocesan office, indigenous hostel & clergy house. Pray for the completion of the final stage to install seating in the church & an adequate sound system.
29 Give thanks for progress in a united witness with other Christians in the Quyquyho area. Pray for plans to improve the medical aid needed there in conjunction with the Ministry of Health. For Osvaldo & María Luisa & for Dr. Haroldo as they work together.
30 Pray for the many children’s groups meeting in & around Concepcion & for strength & creativity for Claire & her team of leaders. Pray for the children who hear the gospel, that through them their families too might come to a commitment to Christ. Give thanks for the provision of a suitable vehicle through Project Paraguay to assist the children’s work in outlying places.
31 Pray for the team working in San Lorenzo & for God’s guidance over the development of the ministry there. Give thanks for the regular contact with so many children & adolescents. Pray too for our diocesan Finance Committee & for Treasurer, Mags Southern as they work through in all church, school & university areas, the implications of the new taxation requirements in Paraguay.
